We're thrilled to have worked with one of our favourite producers in creating this first remix from the recently released Penya___Penya LP.
Dan Leavers (AKA Danalogue) is best known for his work producing and performing in the Mercury nominated psychedelic jazz band "The Comet is Coming" and "Soccer96"
Dan has also produced records for the likes of Snapped Ankles, Alabaster DePlume and many others... we're overjoyed and grateful that he agreed to remix our music
Dan sent us these words about his wonderful remix :
"I really loved the energy from the singers on this track, the super high energy, expressive singing, and then the more chilled, demure spoken words. Also I liked the fact I didn't know what they were singing about, as it's in a different language, so I was free to let my imagination take flight.
Then I set about making a new groove with the drum machine and bass, something that had synergy with the vocals, but in a new context.
I think being starved of gigs and festivals made me dream of being on stage and create the kind grooves and climaxes I play in Comet is Coming and Soccer96.
As I brought in those chords and the track kept building more and more, I was feeling a closer connection to that vibe and dancing round the studio!
Making a remix is sort of like having a relationship with a person, its about the interaction between both parties and how they relate to each other, hopefully you can find a brand new chemistry that's unique to both"

The Dazzling One, a quivering and impressionistic sound picture - like a sonic peacock feather - speaks to a person being initiated into the afro-Cuban religious rites.
This was a journey undergone in 2004 by Penya’s Jim le Messurier who is a santería priest as well as a member of the fraternity of Aña drummers empowered to play the consecrated drums used in the ceremonies.
This experience of initiation was the catalyst for the song’s creation. ‘The Dazzling One’ is a translation of a praise name for one of the deities invoked during the initiation (Ochosi the hunter stalking through the long grass, bow in hand).
